Raven-Symone has declared war on labels. During an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the former child star touched on her sexuality and race, categorically rejecting being called gay or African-American. “I’m tired of being labeled. I want to be labeled a human who loves humans,” Symone said, admitting that she is in love with her partner, who is a woman. “I don’t need language. I don’t need a categorizing statement for it.” “I’m an American, I’m not an African-American,” the “Cosby Show” star added. “I don’t know where my roots go to. I don’t know what country in Africa I’m from…but I do know… Continue Reading

Is Oprah Feuding With President Barack Obama?

Could there be trouble in paradise for the biggest O’s in the country? If there’s any truth to a report by the New YorK Post, the answer is yes. The rumor mill is alleging that Oprah has refused to be a part of the President Barack Obama‘s list of celebrity supporters to back his controversial “ObamaCare,” because she’s holding a grudge against him for not holding his end of the bargain by granting her exclusive access to the White House for her massive co-sign of his 2008 presidential race. Presidential advisor, Valerie Jarrett, phoned Oprah to join stars like Jennifer… Continue Reading

XXL: ‘Lee Daniels’ The Butler’ – Movie Review

Check out my XXL movie review on Lee Daniels’ The Butler: Lee Daniels’ new film The Butler was plagued by adversity long before moviegoers flocked to theaters to see Forest Whitaker as the White House butler who served through eight administrations during America’s most politically vital years, including the pivotal Civil Rights era. First there was the contentious legal battle between the project’s studio, The Weinstein Company, and Warner Bros., which ultimately caused director Lee Daniels to add his name to the film’s title to avoid losing The Butler namesake. Then came the critics who accused the film of being a disservice to Black people,… Continue Reading

Oprah Winfrey’s ‘The Color Purple’ Co-Star Calls Her A ‘Field Nigger’

Oprah’s got a hater. The television queen’s former co-star on “The Color Purple,” Rae Dawn Chong, recently ripped into Oprah during a radio interview. Chong spoke candidly about her personal relationship (or lack thereof) with Oprah, accusing the billionaire of being “a total bitch.” She went on to say that Oprah would have been a “field nigger” during slavery. Apparently the two had a falling out sometime after their Pulitzer Prize-winning film. She said that while Oprah was “lovely” on the set back in 1985, things changed when Chong starred in another movie called “Commando.” “I starred in Commando. And she… Continue Reading

The OWN Network is breaking new ground with a rousing documentary, “Dark Girls,” which addresses the issue of skin color within the Black community. Tyler Perry is featured on the latest installment of Oprah’s Next Chapter, in which the multi-million dollar movie director takes time out to respond to his critics, or as he calls them, his “haters.” During the interview, Oprah asks him what he thought about those who criticized his work for its representation of African-Americans, particularly women, bringing up a quote by writer Toure, who called Perry’s films,”malt liquor for the masses.” “I called him,” Perry said. “I wanted to hear his opinion.
