Awkward Black Girl’s Issa Rae To Play Nina Simone in Biopic

Director, writer and creator of the web series Awkward Black Girl, Issa Rae will be stepping out of her comedic comfort zone to play a more serious role. According to Shadow and Act, Rae has been casted to play Nina Simone in a Lorraine Hansberry biopic. Hansberry is best known as the author of A Raisin in the Sun, which has been performed in both film and theater.
