Dawn Richard Gets Real [Exclusive]

Real women are stars, and stars are real women… When Dawn Richard hits the stage she’s electrifying. Often coloring outside the lines in both her music and fashion, she makes it clear she’s never afraid to take risks. The singer and dancer (also known as D∆WN) made quite the splash with solo projects Goldenheart (2013) and Blackheart (2015), two albums from a trilogy concept that will round off with her upcoming offering RedemptionHeart. But when she’s off the stage, the New Orleans, Louisiana native is just like any other woman trying to conquer the trial-and-errors of life. A self-described, “belligerent introvert,” Dawn is both raw and mysterious. Right off… Continue Reading

DAWN RICHARD SPILLS HER HEART OUT [EXCLUSIVE]

Dawn Richard doesn’t back down from a conversation. Whether about the public demise of her former girl group Danity Kane (for a second time) or the nasty things haters throw her way, the 31-year-old singer does not mince words. In fact, she’s an open book. In her music, she wears her heart on her sleeve and is unapologetic about it. But where she really spills her heart is when discussing things that matter to her most outside all the glitz and glamour of the entertainment industry, like the unfair standards placed on Black women. “As a Black woman we are… Continue Reading

Music Review: Dawn Richard Bleeds Eccentricity on ‘Meteors’

R&B genre-bender Dawn Richard released a new record called “Meteors,” which is set to appear on her upcoming album Blackheart. Falling in line with her sonically progressive sound, Richard goes electro-bold this time around. On Meteros, the singer compares a companion’s unexpected love to a meteor. Much like some of her other EDM songs like “Wild N Faith” and “Riot,” Dawn experiments with a futuristic sound that still bleeds R&B. Listen to “Meteors” below: As a listener, Dawn always keeps you on your toes – which is what I love and respect about her craft. Even when dressed up in lyrical… Continue Reading

Reunion? Danity Kane Spotted Together Again

In a shocking turn of events, former members of the multi-platinum selling girl group Danity Kane were spotted together again in Los Angeles. Dawn Richard, Aubrey O’Day, Aundrea Fimbres and Shannon Bex were all caught on camera walking into a restaurant. The group allegedly met with their new manager to discuss a reunion, which will include recording of new material and touring. Many will remember that Sean “Diddy” Combs dismantled the group in 2009, which was documented on MTV’s Making the Band 3. Since then only one member – Dawn – was able to have a viable music career, having shared… Continue Reading

Review: Dawn Richard Packs a Punch With New Song ‘ARMY’

R&B’s rebel child Dawn Richard surprised fans with a spanking new track called “ARMY.” The record, which was penned by Richard and produced by Kev The Writer, is a silvery refrain that is probably the most traditionally-sounding R&B track the singer has released since her glory days as a member of Bad Boy’s girl band Danity Kane. In “ARMY,” the independent singer-songwriter makes a triumphant declaration to a former lover after recovering from the side effects of a heart broken.   “I’m building an army,” she croons in repetition in the chorus, which sounds like a harmoniously militant anthem. While… Continue Reading
